Barb Beyhl’s inspiration for this show is tied to a respect for nature and the human spirit. Using line and color, she seeks to convey the spark that drew her to a particular landscape or still life. Barb often paints outdoors. Watercolor paint allows her to capture a scene in a few hours. The energy of the place, the nuances of light and color, and the changing shadow shapes observed directly, allow her to convey that magic.
The majority of works in this show are from locations in St. Petersburg or Pass-a-Grille, as well as scenes that involve boating and the Bahamas. Her interest in art resurfaced with a vengeance when she made a life changing decision to resign from corporate life and spend a few years sailing the Caribbean. “That time discovering tropical islands and being free of all outside influences allowed me to return to painting and drawing, a joy that I refused to give up when it became necessary to return to work.”
